Privacy Policy — Foothold

Foothold ("the App") is developed by Furkan Doganay. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles and how it is used.

Summary

Foothold is designed with privacy in mind. There is no custom server operated by the developer — all shared data (friend groups, predictions, leaderboards) is stored using Apple's CloudKit, tied to your personal iCloud account. Match and fixture data (teams, scores, schedules) is retrieved from a third-party sports data provider and contains no personal information.

Information We Collect

1. iCloud Account Identifier
Foothold uses your iCloud account (via Apple's CloudKit framework) to identify you within the App — for example, so your predictions and group memberships are linked to you. This identifier is managed entirely by Apple; the developer does not have separate access to your Apple ID, email, or password.

2. Predictions and Gameplay Data
When you submit a match prediction, join or create a group, or view a leaderboard, this data (your predictions, group membership, and points) is stored in CloudKit. Data belonging to a private group is only visible to members of that group.

3. Display Name
You may choose a display name or nickname shown to other members of your groups. You are not required to use your real name.

4. Global Ranking
Foothold includes a "Ranking" tab that is separate from your private groups: your display name, season/weekly points, and exact-score count are visible to every Foothold user worldwide, regardless of group membership. This is different from group leaderboards, which are only visible to your group's members. There is currently no setting to opt out of the global ranking while continuing to use the App.

5. Football Match Data
The App retrieves publicly available football fixture and result data (teams, scores, kickoff times, league standings) from a third-party sports data API. This data is not linked to your personal information and is used solely to power the App's prediction and scoring features.

Information We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect your precise location.
We do not use third-party advertising networks.
We do not use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
We do not sell or share your personal information with advertisers or data brokers.
We do not have access to your predictions or group data outside of what is necessary for the App's core functionality — this data lives in your and your group members' iCloud accounts via CloudKit, not on a server the developer controls.

How Your Information Is Used

Your information is used exclusively to:

Show your predictions and scores to you
Calculate points and rankings within your private groups
Display group leaderboards to members of that group
Sync your data across your own devices signed in with the same iCloud account

Data Sharing

Foothold does not share your personal information with third parties, except:

Apple (CloudKit): All group, prediction, and leaderboard data is stored and synced through Apple's CloudKit service, subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
Sports data provider: The App queries a third-party football data API to retrieve fixtures and results. No personal or account information is sent as part of these requests — only generic requests for match schedules and scores.

Data Retention and Deletion

Your predictions and group data are retained for as long as you use the App and remain a member of your groups.
You can leave a group at any time, which removes your association with that group's leaderboard.
You can delete the App at any time, which removes local data from your device. Data stored in CloudKit is tied to your iCloud account and can be removed by contacting us at the email below or by managing your iCloud data through your device's Settings app (Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Manage Account Storage).
To request removal of your entry from the global ranking specifically, contact us at the email below.

Children's Privacy

Foothold is not directed at children under 13 (or the relevant minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Third-Party Team Names

Foothold displays publicly known football team and league names for informational purposes as part of its prediction game. Foothold is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any football club, league, or federation mentioned in the App.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
